Emergency Closure Procedures

A closure could be due to dangerous road conditions meaning neither staff nor transport can get to school, or due to heating failure or burst pipes in the school buildings. To find out if we are closed:

  1. -Listen to local radio – either BBC Radio Oxford (95.2 FM) or Heart FM (102.6), Mix 96 FM (96.2)

  2. -Check the school website

- Do not phone school or the radio station!

- Transport operators will be contacted by me as early as possible.

If we are closed due to heating problems (not road conditions) we will notify parents about reopening as soon as we know when that will be. If you haven’t heard directly from us, continue to listen to the local radio stations as they will be kept informed. Please note that such a closure may only affect one of our sites (primary or secondary) and therefore some classes may remain open. So listen carefully for such details in any announcements.

Closures due to snow/dangerous road conditions are rare but it has happened. We usually take the same action as Wheatley Primary and Wheatley Park Schools so if you hear that they are closed this is likely to mean we are also closed. If roads local to the schools are accessible we are likely to have sufficient numbers of staff to make provision for the number of children attending. This does not guarantee your child’s normal routine but we will try to keep the school day educational and stimulating, even with a skeleton staff.

However it may be possible for road conditions in your area to be considered too dangerous for transport operators to send out vehicles, but school may still be open. In this case you are welcome to bring your child into school as long as you can make arrangements to collect them also at the end of the school day.

In the case of deteriorating weather conditions during a school day we may have to close early. In this case we will only do so if transport operators are available to do this and once we have contacted all families. Please ensure we have up to date daytime contact numbers for you.

In the case of school closure every effort will be made to keep the school office open, where you can ring for information later in the day (after midday), but failing that we will contact you. Whatever, keep listening to local radio about the school reopening or further closure.

I would like to assure parents that every effort will be made to keep school open and running normally and that any decision to close the school will be based solely only the grounds of safety and welfare for pupils and staff.

Yours sincerely,
