Organisation

This structure is designed to help us achieve our aim of enabling children with severe learning difficulties to mix socially and educationally with pupils in the mainstream schools, and for both groups to understand and accept each other as individuals and friends.

All children have an Individual Education Plan which is delivered on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. We aim for a staff:pupil ratio of approximately one:three. In practice this usually means one teacher and two learning support assistants for each group of eight or nine pupils.

Pupils are educated alongside their peers in mainstream classes wherever possible – the proportion of time spent in mainstream classes varies according to the needs of the children and the resources available.

Speech therapy, music therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy are also available.

Children of secondary school age are based on the campus of Wheatley Park School.

Up to the age of 11 children are based at a site which we share with Wheatley Nursery School and Wheatley Primary School. The school office and the medical staff are also located on this site.

The school is based on two sites in Wheatley.
