John Watson School
History
History
The school opened in 1965 and was named after Dr John Watson, a much-respected Medical Officer of Health who first campaigned for purpose-built facilities for children with special needs in Oxfordshire.
The school has developed its curriculum and teaching methods over the years. In the early 1980s the first moves towards integration were taken when a few children were taken into local primary schools to join in lessons with their mainstream peers. This was the first tentative step towards the flourishing integration programme that exists in the school today.
The school logo of three joined hands represents the multiple partnerships that underpin our approach - in particular the partnership of parents, pupils and staff, and the partnership of John Watson School with Wheatley Primary School and Wheatley Park School.
